Export your charts as a PNG (image), SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics — for hi-fidelity visuals in HTML pages), a PDF (for sharing, printing, etc.), or an Accessible PDF (a text-based PDF with selectable, searchable text).
Exporting
You can export your chart from the Chart Viewer. Click Export in the toolbar to open the Export Options dialog, where you choose what to export, how it’s laid out, and which format to download.
Note: Exporting is available in the Plus tier.
Your configured chart background and theme — including solid colors, gradients, and background images — are carried over into every export format.
The current view state of the chart is exported. This allows you to expand only the parts of the chart of interest. For instance, if you want to expand a particular department and create an image of that sub-section of the chart, you can do that. If you want to export the whole chart, press the Expand All Nodes button to completely expand the chart and then export. This applies whichever layout option you choose below.
Exporting a Sub-Tree
In the Export Options dialog, under Scope, choose “Highlighted node’s sub-tree” instead of “Whole chart” (you’ll need to have clicked a node to highlight it first). The export will contain just that person and everyone reporting to them (their team), instead of the whole chart — useful for sharing a single team or department without the rest of the org.
Layout
- As on screen — exports the chart exactly as it’s currently laid out and styled on screen.
- Export optimized (Preview) — a layout designed specifically for export, built to make better use of horizontal space. It’s well suited for slides, printouts, and emails, where “as on screen” can come out awkwardly wide. The top level (or a few levels, see below) still spreads out horizontally so the top of the org is easy to scan, and everything below that switches to a compact, indented outline instead of spreading further sideways.
Pick fields to include
Available under Export optimized. Choose exactly which fields appear on each card in the export — profile image, ID, and any additional fields you’ve configured — independent of what’s shown on screen. Handy for a simpler export (e.g. Name and Title only) without changing your on-screen setup.
Advanced options
Also under Export optimized:
- Horizontal spread — how many levels from the top are laid out horizontally before switching to the compact vertical outline. “Auto” (the default, fit to a 2000px target width) picks the number of levels that best fits that width automatically. Horizontal layouts are generally easier to scan for hierarchy at a glance; the vertical outline keeps the overall export narrower. You can also pick a fixed number of levels yourself if you want more direct control.
- Compact leaf-level nodes — further compacts horizontal space by grouping every node with no reports into a single column, instead of giving each one its own column.
Hide conditional formatting (Layers)
If you use Layers to color-code or style your chart, this checkbox lets you export a “plain” version instead — colors and border styles revert to your theme’s defaults, and the layers legend (see below) is left out. Leave it unchecked to include your current layer styling and legend, exactly as toggled on screen (including any layers you’ve turned on or off this session, even if you haven’t saved that change).
When layers are included, exports automatically include a legend beneath the chart describing what each color/style means.
Formats
PDF Format
Download in a PDF format for printing, sharing via email, etc.
Accessible PDF (text based, no images) (Preview)
A PDF built from real, selectable text rather than a picture of the chart — names, titles, and fields can be selected, searched (Ctrl+F), and copied, and the file works properly with screen readers. Available only when Export optimized layout is selected. Profile images aren’t included in this format.
PNG Format
Download an image of your chart as a PNG. This is a high-quality image that you can embed in websites, wikis, etc.
SVG Format
Download a Scalable Vector Graphics version of your chart. SVGs provide a high-fidelity view of the chart which allows you to zoom in and zoom out of it without losing resolution. SVGs can be embedded in wikis, web sites, HTML pages, etc. Employee profile images are embedded directly in the file, so the SVG remains fully self-contained. See Configuring Employee Images for more details.
Exporting Large Charts
Very large org charts can hit practical browser limits, so the resolution of an export will vary with chart size. Employee profile images add extra weight to the exported file, which further reduces the maximum resolution available for a large chart with images.
A few strategies help here:
- Try the Export optimized layout — for wide, flat orgs especially, it can produce a much more compact result than “As on screen,” which helps keep the file within practical resolution limits.
- Prefer SVG for large charts — it zooms in much further without losing quality, unlike PNG or PDF which are capped at a fixed resolution.
- Export by sub-tree — expand and highlight a department head or other convenient sub-level, then export just that sub-tree (see Exporting a Sub-Tree above). This lets you split a very large org chart into several smaller, high-resolution exports instead of one large low-resolution one.
