OrgNice draws out your Organization Chart by identifying the hierarchy in your data. An Organization Chart with just the hierarchy is rarely enough. Usually, you will want to include additional information with each employee. What information you include will depend on the audience of your chart. For instance, an Org Chart can include additional information such as -
- Title
- Department
- Contact information
- Social and other Links
- Interests
The kind of information you include in each node, is very dependent on the use-case.
However, no matter what information you want to include, being able to show associated information is very useful. This can be achieved in OrgNice by configuring additional fields.
Setup
In setup, additional fields can be picked from columns specified in the data range. You must expand the data range to include all columns you want to use. Additional fields show under the employee name. Any number of additional fields can be added. Each additional field occupies one line. Currently, additional fields cannot be multi-line.
Additional Field can have the following information -
- The column the data comes from - you can leave this un-mapped to have a blank line (for spacing)
- The nature of the data (Email, Link, Phone, Text, etc)
- An optional label for the data (you can use this to differentiate between work email and personal email)
- An optional icon for the data
To Add a field, Click on the ‘Add Additional Field’ button to add a new row.
Configure
- Select the column from where data should be picked up. You can leave it un-mapped to have a blank line.
- If mapped, you will be able to configure it using the ‘Configure Additional Field’ gear icon next to the column. Select the type, label and icon for the additional field.
- Remove the additional field by clicking the delete button next to the Configure button.
A note on Links
Links can be added to the chart node. Links can have two types. Full Link Text and Link Label. Full Link Text shows the full text of the link (from the data column) as a clickable element. Link Label shows a clickable label that opens the link. Full Link Text can usually be too long and unreadable in the node so Link Label might be a good usable option.
